Vacuum cleaner servicing

The importance of servicing your vacuum

Vacuum maintenance is an important part of keeping your vacuum running smoothly and efficiently. Vacuums are one of the most versatile tools that we have when it comes to cleaning our homes, but they won't do you any good if they're not working properly. That's why it's so important to keep your vacuum in good working order with regular maintenance checks and repairs.

Vacuum maintenance is often overlooked, but it's important to keep your vacuum in good working order.

It's easy to overlook the importance of maintaining your vacuum, but doing so could lead to a number of problems. Vacuum cleaners are designed to be efficient and effective at cleaning floors, carpets and other surfaces, but they will eventually need some attention in order to continue functioning at their best.

The first step is knowing when it's time for service. If you notice any of the following signs with your machine or its accessories:

  • The suction power has decreased significantly from normal levels;

  • There's an unusual noise coming from inside the motor;

  • Dirt particles are visible around vents on top or bottom of unit;

  • Foul odors are escaping from openings where air flows into dirt container (if applicable);

Filters

  • Filters are important for keeping dust, hair and other debris out of your vacuum.

  • You should replace filters every 3 - 6 months or so to ensure that they're working properly.

  • You can wash most filters.

Bags

  • How often to change the bag:

  • You should change your vacuum's bag regularly, or at least once a month if used daily. If you don't use your vacuum very often, you might want to consider buying a bagless model.

  • How to change the bag:

  • Most vacuums have clear instructions on how to remove and replace their bags, but if yours doesn't, there are usually arrows pointing toward where they are located in the machine itself (usually under or next to where dust gets collected). Consult with these markings before attempting any repairs yourself!

Hoses

Hoses are a key part of the vacuum system. They can be damaged by kinking or crushing, sharp objects, and heat. If you notice any damage to your hose, it's important that you replace it immediately so that none of your other components are affected.

Brushrolls and cables

Brushrolls and cables are important components of your vacuum, as they can greatly affect its cleaning performance. Brushrolls are found on uprights and can be replaced easily by removing them from their housing and installing a new one.

Cables connect the motor to other parts of the machine, so if they break or fray, you may need to replace them as well. They also supply power to mains operated machines, so can be dangerous if damaged.

If your brushrolls have become excessively dirty over time, consider washing and clearing them in order to extend their lifespan by preventing clogs from forming inside those precious little bristles.
